You cannot separate Personfrom Health or Environment
Theperson is the product of both.TheSOS affecting the mechanical, emotional, nutritional and spiritual aspects of the person determines the person’s extent of wellness or illness.Byeducating on health principles as theorized by Nola Pender in her Health Promotion Model (HPM)patient’slives can be improved by prevention and healthy lifestyles (Butts, & Rich, 2010, p. 405).

Focus on FindingImbalances
Health is all about bringing balance/homeostasis back to the body.Intervention may include referralsassistance with housing, food, clothing, counseling and education in nutrition, and healthy physical habits as well as direct care.External environment may also introduce negative or positive energy into the body.An example of negative external influence on health is breast cancer and cell phones. Research into cell phones, which are two-way microwave radios emitting low frequency radiation, and their link to breast cancer has been studied for two years as young women are developing this disease in the exact areas they keep their cell phones in their bras (West et al., 2013, p. 3).Imogene King theorizes, the environment is the background for human interaction, involving internal and external stimuli (King, 2015).

Timing, Thoughts and Toxicity
Affectthe person’s health and environment.Ifthese are contributing a source of stress to the body, the body cannot be healthy.Timingrelates to the body’s synchronization and its number of functions and stressors that affect the circadian rhythm.Thoughtsinfluence emotions, thus affecting the person in a positive or negative manner.Toxicitycan refer to the condition of cells within the body or the external environment the person lives in that affects the cells within the body. Each cell has a different function and is interdependent upon other cells. If cells become toxic and cannot function, disease may begin.Humanbeings live or die at a cellular level (Loomis, 1999).

SETEmbracesThese Assumptions
Thebody can heal itself when sources of stress are identified, addressed, and eliminated.Througheducation, assessment and care, disease can be prevented. The caregiveris the catalyst for change.Timing, thoughts and toxicity are key elements in creating sources of stress. The personmust want to heal in order to heal.Simplequestionnaires and assessments give invaluable insight.Eachperson is unique and the plan of care must be unique to each person.Duringthe healing process the plan of care will change, healing is evolving.Healthis all about bringing the person back into balance/homeostasis and educating them to maintain balance/homeostasis in their environment and health.Acknowledgementby the person must happen in order for change to occur.Healingenvironments help the body to de-stress and heal.Conversationshelp the body to heal, being heard by three different individuals who simply listen allows the conversationalist to form resolutions, make decisions and set goals.

In Closing…
Changeis always challenging, using Kurt Lewin’s Change Theory relating to unfreezing, change and refreezing, it is this author’s hope and goal to bring understanding to Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM), holistic modalities and naturopathic care.Promotinga mix of these modalities in care will only benefit thepersonsbeing served and support their ethnicity, customs and practices. The allopathic worldhasnot always embraced ethnic practices, new theory or even new evidence based research.

In Closing…
There is a divide based upon assumptions and possibly a fear of change and what it would mean to change. It is common acceptance to provide sick care, yet there is a hesitancy to promote health care.It is going to take continued education, continued positive outcomes and integrity within the holistic field and all holistic practice caregivers to help make a change.Promoting the Stress Elimination Theory and incorporating all it represents, this speaker believes that change will occur and the persons it serves will be able to experience a better quality of life.
